The Geezerburger Address
by Binky
"2 score and 9 weeks ago our players brought forth upon this field a new shield, conceived in Victory and dedicated to the proposition that the Quins can win matches. Now we are engaged in a great relegation war, testing whether our team or any supporter so conceived and so dedicated can long endure. We will meet on a great Rugby field of this war. We will dedicate a portion of the Stoop as a final boozing place for those who gave their cheers and shouts so that this team may survive. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But in a larger sense, we cannot drink, we cannot sing, we cannot dance in this ground. The brave men who will struggle here will have done more on this pitch than it is above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note nor long remember what we will shout here, but it can never forget what they will do here. It is for us, the Geezers, rather to be dedicated here to the work which they will complete on Friday and will thus far so nobly advance to win the league next year. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us - that from these honoured players we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion - that we here highly resolve that these players shall not have played in vain, that this team under Evans, shall have a new birth of success and that the beating of Leeds for the Quins and by the Quins shall mean that we do not perish from the league!".
